Become a volunteer!

All it takes is a few hours a month and a soft spot for a creature with four legs, fur and a tail. Come and join our pack! It's fun and rewarding! SIGN ME UP!

GSRNJ is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue, welfare and rehoming of German Shepherds in need. We are completely dependent upon the contributions of our volunteers to do our lifesaving work. No time donated is too little and no skill is without value. Just some of the areas that we need help with are fundraising, organizing and working events, writing and technical skills, help  with our adoption process and the most fun, play with the dogs! Volunteering is incredibly fun and rewarding.

To become a volunteer, please complete this form and acknowledge the GSRNJ Code of Ethics. Our Volunteer Coordinator will review the information provided and contact you regarding the activities in which you have expressed an interest.

    GSRNJ Volunteer Application

    Fundraising

Non-profit organizations rely solely on donations as their main source of income. We have many fundraisers throughout the year, and volunteers are needed to work these events. This would require you to travel to the location where the event is being held, work the hours you have signed up for, and help with setting up and clean-up afterward. This also requires direct interaction with the public and networking GSRNJ.

    Reference Calls

All prospective adopters must provide personal references and a vet reference. Volunteers are needed to check these references and post to the GSRNJ Adoption Team Leader. Some of these calls take time and may incur phone charges.

    Home Visits

A home visit is required on all viable applicants. This involves travel to the home, which will incur gas and/or toll charges. You must also be good at interacting with people, be attentive to detail and have an objective attitude.

    Temperament Testing

It is often necessary to visit animal shelters to evaluate dogs in need of a home. This requires travel to/from the shelter, which will incur gas and/or toll charges. Evaluations require interaction with the dog to assess temperament, approach-ability, and how the dog responds to commands, etc.  *GSRNJ training required.

    Transporting Dogs

Dogs in the GSRNJ program will need to be transported (homes, vets, events, etc.). This will require travel to/from the transport locations, which will incur gas and/or toll charges. It also requires putting an unknown dog in your vehicle, so a crate or confined area is recommended.

    Marketing, Communications and Social Media

GSRNJ has promotional marketing materials to produce such as newsletters, brochures, email blasts and campaign pages. This would involve brainstorming, writing short articles and captions, gathering information and research, and possibly interviewing people. Strong writing skill, technical and interpersonal skills are needed.

    Fostering

Foster homes are the lifeline for any rescue group. In order to become a foster home, a separate Foster Volunteer Application must be completed and an interview process will be conducted.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY AND FULLY BEFORE SUBMITTING:

I  hereby agree to abide by the following terms as a volunteer and representative of GSRNJ, Inc.:
