Goliath may be a big guy, but his heart is just as big! When driving him up from the shelter where he was surrendered, he gave one of our volunteers lots of gentle kisses.
Goliath has some food guarding which we believe was from his owners letting their children tease the dog. He seems to be afraid that you'll take the food away from him. Once he saw that our volunteer at the kennel weren't going to steal his food from him, he relaxed. He even leaves some to come back for later! He does gulp his food a bit as well, so our volunteers have introduced him to a slow feeder. Due to the food guarding, we recommend that he go to a home with an experienced Shepherd owner and NO CHILDREN.
He doesn't seem to have any toy guarding but due to his size we recommend that his new family go slowly with playing with him – he does love to chase the ball and play keep away like most Shepherds! He needs to work on his leash manners and pulling but that just requires some training with the owner... we think he's about 3 years old.
We're not sure yet if he's dog or cat friendly, he doesn't seem to mind other dogs that he sees at the kennel and wants to play when he's looking at them through the fence. Goliath is fully vaccinated and neutered.
